16-year-old beaten to death in Region 1, left in hammock

Police are investigating an alleged murder committed on 16-year-old Janelly David, of Barama Line, Baramita in the North West District (NWD), which reportedly occurred sometime between January 29 -30, 2025 at Barama Line, Baramita, Region 1.
Police are now looking for 40-year-old Eon Moore, who reportedly fled the scene on an ATV, and who is said to have been in a common law relationship with the teen.
Ranks from Baramita Police Station in Region One received a report and arrived at the scene about 11:00 h Thursday, where they discovered the body of David lying motionless face-up in a hammock, in a small makeshift camp.
She was clad in top and short pants with what appeared to be marks of violence to her right eye and an apparent swelling to the back of her head.
Enquiries disclosed that the victim and suspect are known to each other, and were living together up to the time of David’s death.
According to the 31-year-old cook whose camp is about fifteen feet from the couple’s camp at Baramita, she saw both of them on Wednesday at about 18:30 h, and the victim appeared to be in good spirits and good health at the time.
Subsequently, the cook left her camp and went to Central Baramita and returned at about 10:30 h Thursday, where she saw the Moore packing his belongings on to a red Suzuki All Terrain Vehicle (ATV), which did not have a registration number.
The cook said she asked Moore where Janelly was and he told her that the girl was asleep in her hammock.
The cook said she immediately checked the hammock and observed Janelly lying motionless, with visible marks of violence on her face.
At that time, the suspect took off on the ATV, and made good his escape in the direction of Five-Star backdam, NWD.
The teen’s body was escorted to Baramita Cottage Hospital and she was pronounced dead on arrival by the Medic.
A manhunt is presently ongoing for the suspect, as investigations continue.
