A 17-year-old pedal cyclist is now hospitalised after he collided with a vehicle belonging to the Local Government Ministry along the Port Mourant Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The accident is said to have occurred on Monday at about 16:30h. The injured teen has been identified as Dave Bipchand of Babu Jaan, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports received, the driver of the vehicle was proceeding along the said public road at a moderate speed when the cyclist rode into the path of the vehicle.
The driver reportedly told Police that he attempted to bring the vehicle to a stop but the cyclist was already in close proximity, thus resulting in a collision.
The teenager reportedly fell onto the roadway and received multiple injuries about his body.
He was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was examined and transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was admitted.
The driver has been taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.
