Eighteen-year-old Trevor Gasper was on Wednesday sentenced to six months in prison for escaping from the Ruimveldt Police Station.
Gasper, of Middle Road, East La Penitence, Georgetown, was sentenced by city Magistrate Rondell Weaver after he was found guilty of the charge that was brought against him.
The charge stated that on December 11, 2018, Gasper, while being in custody at the Ruimveldt Police Station pending an armed robbery charge, unlawfully escaped Police custody.
According to reports, he was placed on the prisoner’s bench in the enquiries office to be transported to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts; however, he picked the locks of the handcuffs and ran out of the police station. He was subsequently recaptured and charged.
He pleaded not guilty and a trial had commenced which saw several witnesses testifying. The trial concluded on Thursday.
