Home News Teen mom returns from party to burning home
While many will be breaking the New Year with a roof over their heads, this would not be the same for a 16-year-old mother of Tuschen Squatting Area, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), who lost her home to a fire of unknown origin on Christmas Day.
Police say the fire started at about 20:00h on Friday, and reports are that the 16-year-old, who had resided in the wooden structure with her child and its father, a miner, had left her home some time before the fire started to attend a party. However, upon her return, she found her home engulfed in fire.
The Leonora Fire Service was immediately summoned, and went into action, but the house was completely destroyed despite their efforts, and the teen was unable to save any of her valuables.
Police say a probe is in progress to determine the origin of the fire, and that the house had no electricity.
