Alex Ferreira, 19, of Culvert City Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), was on Sunday night killed in an accident along the Tabatinga Bridge.
The 59-year-old driver of a motor car which was also involved in the accident has been taken into police custody.
Reports are that at around 23:00h, the driver was proceeding north along the western side of Tabatinga Public Road and on approaching another nearby bridge, he reportedly observed the motorcyclist traversing from the opposite direction in a reckless manner.
The driver alleged that upon seeing the motor car, the motorcyclist applied brakes but lost control of the bike. As a result, he collided with the motor car and subsequently fell onto the road’s surface where he received injuries.
The young man was later picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to Lethem Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver and no trace of alcohol was detected.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old pedestrian, who was struck down by a motor car on Saturday last has died.
Dead is Deosaran Moonilall of Fairfield, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Reports are that on November 20 at around 18:00h, the pedestrian was crossing the Fairfield Public Road from north to south when he was struck down by the motor car.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the roadway where he received injuries to his head and about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by the said driver and taken to Mahaicony Public Hospital where he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The man died on Sunday whilst receiving medical attention. Investigations are ongoing.
