Teen remains critical as Police hunt for hit-and-run vehicle

One day after being struck by a speeding minibus along the Annandale Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD), 16-year-old Reaz Shaw of Lot 35 Annandale Public Road, ECD, remains in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
His friend, Karmachand Khemraj died as a result of the collision on Sunday evening.
Yacoob Shaw, the teen’s father, on Tuesday evening stated that there were no improvements in his son’s condition since the accident.
“He deh just how he go in; he eyes can’t even open, but de doctor tell me that is something with de brain and it does tek long to heal,” the father related.

Based on reports received, Shaw and 15-year-old Khemraj, also called “Ajay”, of Lot 44 Annandale North, East Coast Demerara were heading home from a nearby shop on a pedal cycle when a speeding white Toyota Hiace ‘Pitbull’ minibus struck them down from behind and continued on its journey without stopping.
The teens sustained severe injuries and were picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Khemraj died about an hour later while receiving medical attention.
His friend, who is also his neighbour, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the medical facility. Police have not yet been able to locate the minibus that was involved in the accident.
When contacted, the father of the dead teenager explained that they were receiving the assistance of the public to search for the bus.
He stated that from all indications the Police are dragging their feet on the issue and as such, called on the higher authorities to look into the matter.
