Teen robbed at knifepoint

A 19-year-old was on Friday evening robbed at Plantain Walk, West Bank Demerara (WBD), after leaving her aunt’s house in the said vicinity to go home.
Based on the information provided, the incident occurred at about 19:20h. Jaleela Majeed told Guyana Times that she left her aunt’s house a few minutes prior to the incident and was waiting for a minibus to go home.

However, she was approached by a young man riding a bicycle, who held a knife as he demanded she hand over her bags. At the time, she was carrying a brown purse and a white tote bag.
“I saw he was riding around on the other side of the street so I thought he live around here or something cause only one side of the road have streetlights. So, I was looking in the direction where the bus was coming from and then he came up from the back. He had a knife and he point it towards me and say ‘give me the bag before I stab you’ and with that, I was scared for my life,” she recalled.
Intimidated by the threats, Majeed said she handed over the bags – one containing $15,500, headphones, an iPhone and smaller articles while the other contained books, a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt. The suspect then made good his escape by riding in the direction of Vreed-en-Hoop.
The victim said the bandit was on a blue bicycle.
“I just hand him everything and pray that he leave me alone cause he could’ve done anything…When he ride off, he cross over the road and went into the light…I see it [the bicycle] was blue and he had one of the bag on his shoulder and the handbag, the brown one, on the bike handle,” she stated.
In recent time, a string of petty robberies have occurred in the area, and some victims were left seriously injured. Last week, a 12-year-old suffered a fractured skull and other injuries after he was pounced on and robbed of his belongings in Coghlan Dam; located just a few minutes away from Friday evening’s robbery.
