Teen seriously injured after crashing car into utility pole

A teenage driver has been hospitalised after crashing the motor car he was driving into a utility pole along the Fyrish Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice on Wednesday evening.
Police have reported that on Wednesday, at about 23:10h, 14-year-old Kyree Anderson of #1 Public Road, Corentyne Berbice was driving motorcar PNN 9096 when motorcar PXX 350 slammed into the rear of that car.
Based on reports reaching Guyana Times, the teen was proceeding along the Fyrish Public Road ahead of motorcar PXX 350 when the driver of that car collided his vehicle with the car the teen was driving, causing the teen to lose control of his vehicle, which crashed into a lamp pole.
As a result of the collision, the teen was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens, and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was treated. However, due to the seriousness of the injuries he received, he was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Breathalyzer tests were conducted on the driver of motorcar PXX 350, which showed that he was way above the legal limit of alcohol consumption. At time of the accident, the teen was not in possession of a driver’s licence. In fact, he has not yet reached the legal age to drive, which is 16.
Both vehicles have been lodged, and are to be examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer. Investigations are ongoing.
