Teen stabbed to death while purchasing fish & chips

…several others injured

An 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Sunday night by a group of men after he stopped at a stand at the main entrance to the Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara to purchase fish and chips.

Dead is 18-year-old Ravildo “Michael” Williams of Lot 37 Friendship, EBD.
According to information received, the incident occurred at about 23:30h. The young man left a wedding reception at Grove, EBD with his family but they stopped to purchase fish and chips from stand before going home.
As they placed their order, they were approached by a group of men in a bid to rob them and it was this time, the teenager was fatally stabbed after he put up resistance.
After realising that the teen was wounded, the suspects fled the scene. Williams was picked up and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
At the home of the dead teen, relatives and friends crowded the yard to offer their condolences to the family. The teen’s father, Romel Paknram said he was present at the scene when they were approached by suspects.

He recalled the men arriving on bicycles and was about to rob them, but his son intervened and was stabbed several times to the left side of his upper body with a sharp object.
His 25-year-old daughter was dealt one blow to her head as she attempted to render assistance to her brother.
“We had left the wedding. My niece got married. We were heading home that time but we went to buy fish and chips and in the heights of that, couple guys roll up with bicycle and go to rob them. After my daughter see they hold her brother, she come out the bus and they lash she in her head and she fall down. She brother run behind them and they start stabbing him up,” the distraught father recalled.
Moments after, the perpetrators fled the scene. Williams was found lying on the ground with blood oozing from the wounds he received.
“It was about four or five of them that I see…They gone and we just see he lying on the ground and we take him to the hospital”.
Guyana Times understands that several others were injured during the incident. One of teen’s cousins received a stab wound to his left chest while another was injured on his hand.
They too were taken to the hospital where they were treated and sent home.
So far, the Police have arrested one person in connection with the murder and he is assisting with their investigations.
