Teenage conductor granted bail for stealing cellphone

A Route 42 minibus conductor was on Thursday released on bail after he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a simple larceny charge.
Amid Atkinson, 18, of Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD) is accused of stealing a cellular phone on January 23, 2018 valued $15,000, property of Abiola Kindle. Atkinson pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on $30,000 bail. On the day in question, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was a passenger in a minibus in which Atkinson was the conductor and she allegedly left her cellphone in the said minibus. The VC after realising that her phone was left in the minibus later contacted the teenager, who denied having knowledge of the cellphone’s whereabouts. Kindle later found the cellphone in his possession. The matter was then reported and investigated. The case was adjourned to March 26, 2018.
