Although the Guyana Police Force has announced a 40 per cent decrease in serious crimes in F Division (Interior Locations) thus far for 2016, another murder was recorded on Wednesday evening. This time, a teenager was accused of stabbing a man during a drinking spree at Ela Landing, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini).
The dead man was identified was Junior Moses, 44, a farmer of Barima, NWD. The stabbing incident occurred about 18:40h. Investigations revealed that Moses and the suspect, a 17-year-old, were consuming alcohol when an argument erupted.
It was during the argument, the teenager armed himself with a knife and stabbed Moses once to his abdomen and made good his escape. Moses was taken to the Mabaruma Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is presently at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem. However, the matter was reported and the teenager was subsequently arrested. He is being questioned by the Police and is expected to be arraigned for murder.
Only on Tuesday, F Division Commander, Senior Superintendent Ravindradat Budhram highlighted that out of the 19 murders that were committed for the year thus far, 15 of them were solved. He also pointed out that a total of 33 illegal firearms were seized compared to 16 in 2015.
