Teenagers remanded on robbery charge

Two 18-year-olds of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, were on Friday remanded to prison after denying a charge of robbery under arms when they appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Ceon Wright and Stephon Dazzle pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 7 at Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, and while being armed with a knife, they robbed Gary Matterson of two cellular phones and cash amounting to $90,000.

The Prosecution objected to bail, stating that the matter is very serious and it attracts a high penalty. In addition, the Prosecution contended that these types of crimes are prevalent during the holiday season.

As such, the duo was placed on remand.

The defendants are scheduled to make their next court appearance on December 14 before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
