Teens facing larceny charge

Two teenage boys were granted bail when they appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh, charged with larceny.

Ishmael Austin, 17, of Lot 1980 Nutmeg Street, Festival City, Georgetown, and Kelwin Ferley, 19, of Lot 2094 Nutmeg Street, both appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where they pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.

It is alleged that on July 30, 2016, at Georgetown, they stole one black handbag valued $8000, one Movado watch valued $240,000 and $7000 in cash, property of Shelly Benny.

The Prosecution objected to bail since the items were not recovered.

Both defendants also had matters of a similar nature brought before them previously, as such the Police Prosecutor asked that the magistrate take that into consideration and deny bail.

However, the Prosecution’s objection was overruled and the teens were released on $100,000 bail each. As a condition to their bail, the duo is to report to the East La Penitence Police Station once per week.

The case will continue on August 19.
