The Traffic Department has warned motorists that the installation and use of unauthorised LED light displays and electronic visual devices on motor vehicles constitute a breach of prescribed fitness requirements.
In a public advisory, the department said devices such as illuminated “eyes”, animated or moving images, scrolling lights, coloured LED panels, and similar visual displays are not approved for use on vehicles. Authorities noted that such additions can distract other road users, impair visibility, particularly at night, and create confusion with authorised emergency or warning lights.
According to the Traffic Department, the presence of these devices increases the risk of road traffic accidents and undermines overall road safety.
Traffic ranks have been instructed to take enforcement action against drivers found in breach of the regulations. Measures may include prosecution, the removal of unauthorised devices, and the disqualification of a vehicle’s certificate of fitness.
The department on Thursday reminded motorists that compliance with road traffic laws is essential and emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility.
