Guyana is known as a cricketing nation, but basketball is on the rise. The life of Kevon Adrian Wiggins is a story to all basketball lovers. He is carrying Guyana’s basketball to great places. At the tender age of 17 representing your country in your given sport suggests that you are a young legend.

This young legend was born on October 19, 2000 in New Amsterdam, Guyana, but grew up in Rose Hall Town. Wiggins fell in love with basketball at age 13. During that time, his father played for the Rose Hall Town Jammers at the Area H Ground, Rose Hall Town.
Speaking to Guyana Times Sport exclusively, Wiggins related he achieved a rare feat: playing for Guyana’s junior and senior basketball teams in the year 2018. Though Wiggins has migrated to the United States of America, he continues to be patriotic, travelling home to represent Guyana in various basketball tournaments. “The most successful game of my career was against Alfred E Smith High School in the Bronx, I scored a breathtaking 34 points, I shot 6-8 from the three-point line,” Wiggins told this reporter.
In the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) U-16 Championships, which was played in Guyana, Wiggins had an outstanding average of 15.2 points per game. His unforgettable youth tournament consisted of 11.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Wiggins attended the Rose Hall Town Primary School, where he wrote the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and attained exceptional grades to attend one of Berbice’s best schools – New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMS).
Presently, Wiggins attends Evander Child’s Campus in the Bronx, New York. If you asked about Wiggins during his high school years, stories will be told about basketball. During his time at the NAMS, he dominated school basketball tournaments, scoring three pointers and dunking with ease.
However, there is life after basketball; Wiggins is enjoying his basketball, but is simultaneously majoring in computer science. Wiggins told Guyana Times Sport that he is working toward his dreams of playing basketball in the National Basketball Association (NBA) or in Europe.
Before it was all basketball for Wiggins, he played cricket, attending Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Cricket Academy, but he certainly took little time to find his love – basketball. Standing at six feet, the talented shooting guard is certainly making a name for himself in the world of basketball.
Wiggins is known to his classmates and teammates as an entertainer: a jovial and funny guy. Among his motivators are his parents and brother, Jaydon Wiggins, who also has a passion for the game of basketball. His favourite basketball player is Kawhi Leonard, who plays for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA.
Wiggins believes that nothing is impossible, and hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.
