Home News Thief caught, beaten, handed over to Police
A 23-year-old man who was caught stealing from a resident of Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) was on Sunday morning beaten before being handed over to the Police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was caught stealing an electric saw, an angle grinder, an electric drill, and a haversack.
The victim, a mason, told law enforcement officers that he had secured his home on Saturday evening before retiring to bed. However, at around 4:00h the following morning, he woke up and saw the suspect in his room.
Upon coming faced-to-face with his victim, the suspect attempted to escape, but was eventually caught.
The suspect and the victim reportedly had a scuffle, during which the victim grabbed a wire and dealt the suspect several lashes about his body. Again, in an effort to escape, the suspect jumped into a drain.
The victim then raised an alarm, which saw persons running to his assistance. They managed to apprehend the suspect, who was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he was treated before being handed over to the Police.
The suspect has been placed in custody of the Leonora Police Station, pending further investigations.
