Thrilling opening encounters headline Rainforest Waters Squash Championships

The 2018 Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Rainforest Waters Senior National Championships commenced Wednesday night with a series of thrilling showdowns in the men’s matches.
The Georgetown Club Court saw top seeds sparring with the hopefuls in the first round in the battle of the males. Former junior Caribbean Champion Damien Da Silva returned to the court after a number of years and showed little rust as he engaged in the closest contest of the night against Jonathan Antczak.
Both players were on par throughout the match, but DaSilva’s magic touch prevailed as he secured a three-love win; 11-9, 11-6, 11-8. Robert Fernandes beat Reagan Rodrigues 11-3, 11-0, 11-2 while top seeds Shomari Wiltshire and Nyron Joseph also recorded commanding wins, disposing of Adam Alves and Joshua Abdool, respectively

Meanwhile, veteran Garfield Wiltshire battled Lloyd Fung A Fat while Brian Young faced Tony Farnum in the smallest veteran category, while the women played against the younger ladies in an eight-player draw as action continued on Thursday evening from 18:00h.
