A 46-year-old resident of Timehri, East Bank Demerara, is nursing a broken hand and injuries to his head at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he was attacked and brutally beaten by masked bandits on Wednesday.
Based on information received, on Wednesday evening at about 19:30h, Andrew Jones of Timerhi Docks Area, EBD, was making his way to a nearby shop, when he was approached by a group of men who demanded that he empty his pockets.
At first, the man resisted but the bandits armed themselves with chains and beat the man before relieving him of the valuable items he had in his possession.
As a result of the beating, Jones collapsed onto the roadway as the men made good their escape. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre but due to the injuries, he was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
His condition is regarded as stable. He reportedly suffered a broken left arm and cuts to the head which required stitches.
The matter was reported to the Timehri Police Station and an investigation has commenced into the alleged robbery.
