Tragedy struck for a Region One (Barima-Waini) family after a toddler died when a motorcycle crashed into her and her sister.
Dead is one-year-old Neshia Alexander of Kariako Village, Barama River, North West District, Region One (Barima-Waini). Injured is 13-year-old Charmaine Samuels, who is nursing wounds about her body from the accident.
Reports are that on Wednesday at about 19:30h the toddler was holding onto her 13-year-old sister’s hand while standing on the roadway at Kariako Village when the motorcycle, ridden by a 25-year-old man, crashed into them.
Police reports revealed that as a result of the impact, the child fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries to her head and body. The toddler was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to her home and then rushed to the Kumaka District Hospital for medical attention.
However, when they arrived at the health facility, the child was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body is at the Moruca District Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination (PME). The motorcyclist is in Police custody as investigations continue. (G9)
