Guyana’s top riders will assemble at Thirst Park today, Sunday October 10, from 7:30h for the Kadir Mohamed Memorial (Ounce of Gold) cycle road race.
This marquee event is sponsored by the Mohamed family of Bartica and is organised by the Flying Stars cycling club.
Seniors, juniors & veterans Under 50 would be battling for supremacy as the race proceeds to Dora on the Linden Highway (Coca Cola sign) and returns to Thirst Park for the finish. The Veterans Over-50, Pre-Juniors & Ladies would be cycling to Yarrowkabra Junction and back to Thirst Park.
Prizes will be awarded for the first six seniors,first five veterans under-50 and first three juniors. The first three veterans over-50, first three pre-juniors, and first three ladies would also be awarded.
The National COVID-19 Task Force has given the green light, and all COVID-19 PROTOCOLS would be observed. The Guyana Police Force is expected to monitor the event. The defending champion of the Ounce of Gold race, Briton John, has returned to Guyana after his overseas stint, and would be aiming to defend his title successfully.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the presentation of prizes would be done later. Time and venue would be announced at the start of the race. In addition to Briton John, Jamual John and National Champion Romello Crawford all returned home to taste gold in today’s event.
Paralympian Walter Grant-Stuart would want to continue his good form, as would the men from Team Evolution – Christopher Griffith, Paul DeNobrega and Curtis Dey.
The man from Berbice, Andre ‘Padlock’ Green, would also be aiming to come good and grab gold in this lucrative cycling race. Last year’s juvenile winner, Mario Washington, another Berbician, would be aiming to dominate his level, while Guyana’s female champion Suzanne Hamilton would aim to extend her dominance.
