Top horses in full preparation mode for July 31 horse race meet

The newly imported horses are in full preparation mode for the July 31 horse race set for Port Mourant Turf Club.

According to the race organisers, more than eight million dollars in cash prizes will be up for grabs, and 30 newly imported horses from Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America will be competing for the first time in Guyana.
Despite the rains that on Saturday morning swept across the ancient county of Berbice, the horses turned out in their numbers at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club at Bush Lot Corentyne and were seen in full preparation mode. This daily publication visited the venue, and all the newly imported horses were in action.

Horse-racing enthusiasts should expect high-quality racing, and all the top jockeys will also be on show. For the first time in history, 24 new entries, including horses from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, the United States of America and Suriname, will battle for top honours at the same venue, the Port Mourant Turf Club.
Eight races are carded for July 31, with the feature event, open to all horses, running over eight furlongs for a winner’s purse of $1M. The second prize is $500,000, while third-place prize is $100,000.
This lucrative one-day event is expected to start promptly at 12:00h with the L Open race, which will be contested over six furlongs for a winner’s purse of $160,000. Second prize is $80,000.
The second race is the eight- furlong race involving Guyana and West Indies-bred two-year
-old horses for a top prize of $500,000, while the second-placed horse will win $250,000. The horse that finishes third will bag $125,000.
Race three will be the J Class race over eight furlongs, and the top horse will bag $200,000.
Race four will see the J3 maiden (all first-time starters) running over six furlongs for a prize of $200,000 will be the top prize.
In the H Class race, running over six furlongs, the top horse will bag $400,000.
Race 6 will be the F Class race running over 6.5 furlongs, and the top prize is $500,000.
In the Guyana and West Indies-bred two-year-olds’ race running over five furlongs, $400,000 will be the top prize.
Entries will be closed on July 25, and the races will run under updated classification.
