Top horses to assemble at Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club on March 8

Horses from the top racing stables in Guyana will be out hunting for glory on Sunday, March 8, at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club.
Slingerz Racing Stables, JS Racing Stables, Jumbo Jet Racing Stables, Jagdeo Racing, and Simply Royal Racing Stables, among others, will be vying for GY$8 million in cash and prizes.
It will be the third race day for the year 2026, and it promises to be a spectacle for horse lovers.

A glimpse of what to expect at the KMTC on March 8

The feature event on the day’s card is the Phagwah Cup, which is open to all horses in Guyana, running at a distance of approximately nine furlongs for a winner’s purse of GY$2,000,000 and a trophy.
There is a race for H Class horses, which will see the winner claiming GY$450,000 and a trophy at a distance of seven furlongs. The three-year-old Guyana-bred Maiden event will see the winner walking away with GY$350,000 and a trophy in the six-furlong event.
The J Class 7-furlong race has a pole position of GY$350,000 and a trophy. The race for K Class and lower horses carries a winning purse of G$350,000 over six furlongs.
There is also an event for L Class maiden horses, which will see the animals racing for a top purse of GY$350,000 and a trophy, running at six furlongs. The event will be held using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club.
These races are being run under the rules of the KENNARD MEMORIAL TURF CLUB.
If there are fewer than five horses entered for any event, the club reserves the right to cancel or reframe the said event or reduce the prize money after consulting with the horses’ owners.
Owners of horses must pay the full fee for each horse at the point of entry.
Five horses to start before a third prize is to be paid.
Seven horses to start before a fourth prize to be paid. If only four horses start, the prize money will be reduced by 25 per cent.
If only three horses start, the prize money will be reduced by 40 per cent.
All entries must be paid in advance of racing day. No late entry will be accepted.
