Den Amstel fought off the Timehri Panthers in the grand finale to win 4-0 and claim the title in the inaugural 2-day event.
Den Amstel received $100,000 for the win, while Timehri Panthers had to settle for the runner up prize of $50,000.
Head Coach of Den Amstel, O’Neil Heywood, said: “We are really grateful that we won the tournament. We are also grateful to BK, as they came out and sponsored the tournament; and I’m just hoping they continue the sponsorship each year, and hope we get a bigger competition in the future”.
Tiwari told the small gathering at his office that the support will be there as long as his good friend McAurthur continues to put the work.
Speaking at the press conference, a representative of football management in Guyana said gestures like this one are always a plus, since it would benefit the teams and motivate them to do more.
Tiwari also reminisced on the times when he was associated with Western Tigers and his impact on encouraging the team. He went on to state that, as time progressed, he eventually ended the partnership, due to the lack of stability.
However, the avid sport supporter noted his company invests a minimum of $20 million dollars into sports on a yearly basis. (Timothy Jaikarran)
