For 35 years Torginol has stood beside the Kennard Memorial Boxing Day horse race meet.
In a presentation ceremony held at the Torginol Paints office in Industrial Estate, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, the local paint giant extended its sponsorship for the annual Boxing Day meet on Thursday, December 26 at the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.

Speaking at the ceremony, Office Manager Ravi Brijnadan, who wished Justice (retired) Cecil Kennard and team success in the Boxing Day meet, stated that the relationship with the Kennard Turf Club was a longstanding one and would continue to grow in the coming years. Justice Kennard thanked Torginol for its efforts since the inception.
“Over the years, the sponsorship has been increasing and we are indeed grateful. As we all know, without sponsorship, no sporting activity can be successfully promoted and this is very refreshing to have a big company as Torginol, who is a part of Continental Group of Companies, which has been generous to us,” Justice Kennard disclosed.

With the Ancient County known for showing huge support to horse racing, Justice Kennard stated that he was expecting a large turnout for the upcoming Boxing Day meet.
“A lot of Guyanese who are returning for the Christmas holidays are expected to witness the event. Recently, we have spent over $7 million on the racing facility and presently, we are adding some finishing touches.”
Justice Kennard stated that for every event, they would be aiming to invest in the number one turf club in Guyana. “We are the only club with a double decker in the country,” Kennard noted.
He assured that the track was an all-weather one which would ensure horse racing enthusiasts get their money’s worth. He added that the washroom facilities would be upgraded to some 11 flush toilets.
Torginol is the main sponsor for the H Class & Lower race along with the winning trophy. The Boxing Day meet will have seven events on the programme, and the penultimate event of the day which is the Metro Million Mile open to all horses will be the main event. This feature event will see horses run one mile and the top horse will be rewarded with $1 million along with a trophy. (Brandon Corlette)
