…as Restaurant week takes shape
In observance of Tourism Awareness Month 2018, the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced a schedule of events, which will be executed throughout the month of November. These activities would have started early with engagements at the educational level.
Themed, “Promoting Sustainability, Celebrating Diversity”, the month of awareness is aimed at portraying Guyana mainly for its natural characteristics while placing emphasis on the adventure and cultural experiences which once can experience during their stay.
Partnering with the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), the list of activities was officially launched with input from the Business Minister, Dominic Gaskin.
Gaskin used the platform to point out that concentration needs to be placed on what the country has to offer in relation to nature-based tours.
The GTA Director, Brian Mullis assured that they are willing to collaborate with the private sector to ensure that Guyanese are given affordable travel packages throughout the year.
The events started with school talks at Linden Foundation Secondary School, Tutorial High School, JC Chandisingh Secondary School, and Anna Regina Secondary School and will wrap up on November 14.
Meanwhile on Friday at the Giftland Mall, a Tourism Sector Fair is planned in an effort to increase public awareness. The organisations are encouraging the public to visit the event where they can learn about available tours and opportunities to see the beauty of Guyana. Participating companies include Old Fort Tours, Dagron Tours, Rainforest Tours, Evergreen Adventures, Lake Mainstay and the Aruwai Resort.
The excitement will continue with a Scavenger Hunt on November 24. This activity is intended to “engage the younger generation, to promote teamwork and drive conversation about tourism”.
THAG in collaboration with Tourism Department of the Business Ministry is also set to host the Guyana Restaurant Week, regional tourism planning and development workshops and the launch of the Guyana Rum Route among others.
