Tower Hotel owner nabbed in Jamaica on cocaine trafficking charges

…US seeking extradition

Guyanese businessman, Shervington Lovell, has been arrested in Jamaica for suspected drug trafficking. This was confirmed by a source close to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU). Lovell is the owner of Tower Hotel on Main Street, Georgetown.

It was reported that Lovell, who had been under CANU’s radar and that of international investigators for a lengthy period, was arrested along with two others as soon as they arrived in Jamaica on a flight from Guyana.
Guyana Times understands that the hotelier is expected to face several charges of drug trafficking along with money laundering.
A vessel, purportedly owned by Lovell, was also intercepted which is suspected to be used by the businessman to ship the illicit drugs from Jamaica to St Maarten.
According to reports, authorities in the United States have filed eradication proceedings for Lovell in connection with drug trafficking to the US.
A CANU source has confirmed that Lovell and several other persons have been under the agency’s radar since 2010.
