Track athletes book semi-final spots, Roach into Triple Jump final

It was a much better day on Thursday for Guyana Track and Field athletes at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland as two track athletes competed in semi-final events while Stafon Roach leaped into the Triple Jump final.
Competing in the qualifying round at the Scotstoun Stadium, Roach had a best leap of 15.45m to secure 11th place and thus moved on to the final with the top 12 jumpers.

Jamaica’s Jordan Scott came out on top of the qualifying round, with a leap of 16.56m, followed by Indian duo Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran who jumped 16.41m and 16.26m respectively.
The final for that event is scheduled for Saturday, August 1.
Meanwhile on the track, Jackson Clarke and Keliza Smith took their mark in the Men’s and Women’s 200m events, respectively.
Clarke, not initially making the cut for the semis, lined up in semi-final two, and went on to clock 20.70s for seventh place in the race. Ghana’s Joseph Paul Amoah took the win and an automatic spot in today’s final with a 20.24s run.
Smith had similar fortunes, stopping the clock at 23.69s for sixth place in semi-final three. Trinidad and Tobago’s Shaniqua Bascombe crossed the line first, in 22.31s to move on to today’s final.
