Trademarks notice in Guyana includes Detroit Pistons, All Stars cigarettes

The Detroit Pistons, a team of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States, has trademarked its products and services in Guyana.
The Pistons, through its New York office filed to trademark the logo under Chapter 90:01 of Trade Marks Act of Guyana and the notice was published in the Official Gazette dated November 4, 2017. Law associates Cameron and Shepard filed the application in Guyana on behalf of the American team.
Among the trademark items for the team include electronic game software in the field of basketball, audio recordings and video recordings featuring entertainment and information in the field of basketball, computer carrying cases, and protective sleeves for laptop and tablet computers. The team also applied to trademark computer browser software for use in viewing and displaying data on computer game software; video game software, and cell phone covers. Additionally, the team filed to trademark downloadable catalogues provided over the Internet featuring an array of basketball-themed products; downloadable greeting cards provided over the Internet; and mouth guards for sports in International Class 9.
Based in Detroit, Michigan, the team won the NBA Championship three times – in 1989, 1990 and 2004. Basketball great Dennis Rodman began his professional career with the Detroit Pistons. He joined the team in 1986 and remained there until 1993.
There were several pharmaceutical products of the Johnson & Johnson Company that were recently trademarked. Another product in the November 4 notice was the “All Stars” brand of cigarettes which falls under the Potomac Tobacco Company Limited. In July 2017, the National Assembly passed the Tobacco Control Bill, which will see curbs and fines for public smoking.
