This type of cricket is generally known as the pair’s cricket. It sees batsmen operate in pairs over five overs, and then rotate to another pair to face another five overs. Every wide or no-ball is counted as two runs, and whenever a wicket falls, ten runs are deducted.
Batting first, Transport posted a competitive 257-3 off their allocation of 25 overs, with penalties included. Riyad Latif (12) and Alvin Mohabir (14) led the scoring, while Myem Khan bagged 2-13 and Romeo Deonarine supported with 1-8. DCC also gifted the opposition 38 welcome extras.
In reply, DCC posted a mammoth 346 – 9 off their allotted 25 overs, with Gabriel Roothkan (13) and Nicholas Samaroo (12) top scoring. Latif picked up 2-7, Dave Mohabir bagged 2-9, and Reyaz Latif claimed 2-10.
Despite DCC’s score, the rules of the tournament state there is a 10-run penalty for each wicket that falls; hence, a deduction of 90 runs from their score left them with 256.
Following the prize giving ceremony, DCC’s R Geenarine was adjudged best bowler of the final with 4-6, while Mohabir was the best batsman with a highest of 64 against GCC.
The competition’s best bowler award went to Wavell Allen for his nine wickets, while Jonathan Van Lange of GCC grabbed best batsman with 111 runs. Mohabir returned to secure the tournament’s best all-rounder award as he accumulated 112 runs and took six wickets.
This tournament was co-sponsored by ECO Atlantic, Guyana Trading Company and Cerulean Inc.
