Transport: El Dorado set for GCA Friends of Cricket final

Transport Sports Club and El Dorado Cricket Club will meet in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Friends of Cricket Second Division Two-Day final this weekend at the Transport Sports Club ground in Georgetown.
Transport secured their place in the final after overcoming Police Sport Club in the semi-finals, while El Dorado booked their spot by defeating the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).

Both teams will be aiming to cap their campaigns with the title, with GCA Competition Chairman Shaun Massiah expressing confidence in the quality of cricket displayed by the finalists.
“Both teams have been playing good cricket, especially Transport. I am happy that El Dorado, because they moved from QC to El Dorado, have been playing very good cricket,” Massiah said.
He noted that El Dorado had performed fairly well in the first division last year before moving to the second division, where they have continued to impress and earned their place in the final.
El Dorado Captain Mohamad Nassir described reaching the final as a significant achievement for the club, which is participating in the tournament for the first time.
“I’m really excited. This tournament started two years ago; it’s been the debut tournament for El Dorado. And it’s been exciting for us participating, getting through the group stages, and competing against a lot of big clubs in Georgetown,” Nassir said.
“To be able to make it to the finals, I think it’s a great achievement. One step more to go, and I’m very excited.”
Meanwhile, Transport Captain Jeremiah Hohenkirk said his players were eager to contest another final and were focused on executing the basics effectively.
“I would say that I’m just very excited to play another final for Transport. I know most of the guys on our team are very excited, very hungry for cricket,” Hohenkirk said.
He outlined the importance of discipline with the ball and efficiency with the bat as key factors in Transport’s approach.
“Just sticking to the basics, basically. Putting the right balls in the right areas. Scoring efficiently for the team. Yeah, that’s basically it,” he added.
The two-day final will provide both clubs with an opportunity to crown their campaigns with silverware, as Transport seek to capitalise on their experience while El Dorado look to turn their breakthrough run into a championship-winning performance.
