Travis Belgrave: a class above the others

Travis Belgrave continued to demonstrate he is a class above the others with his impressive basketball skills, showing a form that can only be the product of hard work and dedication as he led the Eagles to a 75-63 victory over the Republic Bank Nets to end that club’s undefeated streak when action continued in the first division category of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s (GABA’s) League on Saturday at the Burnham Hardcourt.

The night belonged to Belgrave, who signed it off with a game-high 21 points. He was ably supported by Kevin Higgins, who finished the night on 14 points in the Eagles’ 12-point win.

The Nets went down fighting, though, as Hodyah Stewart played very well to top score for his side with 18 points.

The opening match of the night saw Plaisance Guardians destroying the Vikings 97-50. Top scoring for the Guardians, and leading by example, was their skipper Terrence Daniels, who scored 22 points, and Nigel Bowen, who made a meaningful contribution of 20.

Scoring for the Vikings in their losing effort was Leon Lee and Slayne Joseph, who both contributed 11 points.

Play will continue at the same venue on Wednesday when Sonics come up against the Pacesetters in the U23 Division, and Eagles do battle with the Vikings in the Second Division league.

The tournament is being sponsored by Banks DIH Limited through its Rainforest water and Malta Supreme Brands.
