Thirty-seven-year-old Dexter, who is accused of raping an underage girl, will remain a free man after the trial ended in a hung jury on Wednesday.
McIntosh had denied the indictment which detailed that January 1, 2015, he engaged in sexual penetration of a 12-year-old girl.
At the trial’s conclusion, the 12-member jury empanelled before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow in the Sexual Offences Court was unable to reach a verdict after deliberations.
The prosecution’s case presented by Teriq Mohammed and Mandel Moore contended that on January 1, 2015, the accused visited the victim’s home and lured her outside.
It is alleged that the victim, who heeded, was later taken by the accused to an abandoned area.
Father of the victim after calling out for her in their home realised that something was amiss and that she was not at home. The man began looking for his daughter and observed the accused leaving the location when he began calling out his daughter’s name. The man was later charged and placed on bail. A retrial is expected in the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
