Trilling semi-finals expected tonight at Silver City tarmac
Guinness ‘Greatest of the Street’ Linden zone…
The Silver City Tarmac is expected to be a hive of activity tonight when the semi-finals of the Linden zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Football Champions gets cracking from 19:00h.
In the first of the two matches, Swag Entertainment will battle with Jermaine and Family Silver Bullets while in game two, Dave and Celina All-Stars will take on defending champions Team 25.
The four team’s path of the semi-finals was quite different with the defending champions crushing Amelia’s Ward Russians 4-1 via goals from Rudy Halley (6th), Ruel Williams (14th), Teon Stewart (24th) and Ryan Noel (26th) while Oswald Benjamin (22nd) scored the consolation goal.
Likewise, Dave and Celina’s All-Stars made light work of Young Kings 3-0; Cordell Johnson (4th), Rawle Gittens (12th) and Sean Brewley (21th) were all on target in the onslaught.
On the other hand, Swag Entertainment held on for a 2-0 penalty win against Cherokee Park after the scores were tied 1-1 at regulation time. Cherokee opened the scoring in the fourth minute with Nantambu Arbar while Colwyn Drakes responded in the 25th to bring the game level.
Game three was also determined on penalties with Jermaine and Family Silver Bullets advancing through to the next round via a 2-1 result over High Rollers.
High Rollers’ Kendolph Lewis opened the scoring in the first minute and it took but Jermaine Samuels 29th minute strike to equalise.
The teams will be vying for a first place prize of $400,000 while second to fourth place teams would receive $150,000, $100,000 and $75000 respectively; the top two teams will also be awarded a spot in the National Play-offs.
The grand finale is billed for Saturday.
