Hard work and dedication continue to pay off for 13-year-old Jalade Trim, who is gradually seeing all of her life’s dreams come true.
This rising football star, who hails from the mining town of Linden, will be travelling to Russia to witness the 2018 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup. Many athletes of all ages would give an arm and a leg to attend this dream event, which attracts the world’s best athletes and A-list celebrities from around the world, and the young Guyanese and her mothe,r Finola Trim, will be in ‘the thick of things’ as Jalade participates in a string of coaching sessions and football education courses.
The exhilarating experience was made possible by a kind contribution from Nazar Mohamed, owner of Mohamed’s Enterprise. “As a company, we have always been supportive of our sportsmen and women through the years. In this case, we have a young female player who has been afforded a huge opportunity to be at the greatest event in the world, and we thought it best to ensure that her greatest fan, her mother, gets the opportunity to accompany her on such a trip,” Nazar Mohamed said as he handed over the sponsorship cheque to the teen and her mother.
Jalade told Guyana Times Sport that she fell in love with the game of football at the tender age of 5. She began playing with the Kwakwani Strikers, and they assisted in improving her skills over the years. The 13-year-old caught the attention of football fans in 2017 when she participated in the CONCACAF Under-17 league. Although she did not score in that match, her skills were undeniable. She had a great season, and was named the Junior Female Footballer of the Year by the Guyana Football Federation.
