Trinidad, Suriname arrive for drag racing fiesta

Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname have graced these shores on Friday as they prepare to bring a stern challenge to the home side at Sunday’s King of the Strip 2 Drag Racing Meet, being staged at the South Dakota Circuit.
Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) President Ramez Mohamed told this publication on Friday afternoon the GMR&SC were in the process of clearing the vehicles and bikes at the wharf, while the Surinamese are already in the country, heading to the city.

Mohamed also indicated the track is close to full preparedness for the intense speed that is expected. He also explained that the Trinidadians would have brought some materials to further bolster the track’s preparation.
One of the cars from Trinidad is be a rail car owned and piloted by Andy Bissessar. The purpose-built drag car has the ability to achieve sub 10-second times, while the two bikes are engineered specifically for quarter-mile strips. All six of the machines are in a container en route to Guyana.

In December 2016, at the Wallerfield Raceway in Trinidad and Tobago, Bissessar rocketed his way to a new track record of 7.29s at 180.57mph!
Regarding the number of competitors, he noted that 60 have already registered, and that number is expected grow.
The event is sponsored by Tropical Shipping, JAPARTS, Mohamed’s Enterprise and ANSA McAL, with tickets being $1000 for adults and $500 for children. Start time is 09:00h.
