Trio jointly charged for money changer’s murder

…more than 12 witnesses expected to testify

Kerwin Dos Santos and George Hope, both 24, of Freeman Street, La Penitence, Georgetown; and Kacey Heyliger, 25, of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown, on Friday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after they were charged jointly with the murder of an America Street money changer.

The three men, who were initially charged separately for the man’s murder, had individual charges withdrawn against them and a joint charge of murder instituted.
The prosecution intends to call 13 witnesses during the Preliminary Inquiry. The men were further remanded and are expected to return to court on June 8.
Shawn Nurse, called “Fabulous” was plying his trade on the corner of America Street and Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown when he was shot and killed during a robbery.
According to reports, Nurse, of Apartment 33 Shopping Plaza, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was shot during a struggle with a gunman, who along with accomplices, were attempting to relieve him of a large sum of foreign and local currency. He was shot to the head in the process.
The father of three died at the scene, while his killers fled with an undisclosed sum of cash and a quantity of gold jewellery, leaving a 9mm spent shell at the scene.
Several persons were questioned and gave a description of the shooter. At the time of the shooting incident, the suspect was reportedly clad in a red hoodie and a pair of brown trousers.
The men charged in this matter are no strangers to the courts, since they appeared on previous occasions charged with similar offences.
