Trio remanded over attack on construction site

Three men who allegedly carried out a brazen attack at a construction site at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, have been charged with armed robbery.
The men: Devon Hope, 35; Wayne Bascom, 28; and Ishwar Persaud, 50, have all been remanded to prison until September 30 by Magistrate Sunil Scarce, in whose Diamond/Golden court they were arraigned on Monday.
Gunmen on Saturday morning attacked and robbed a number of employees who were contracted to work at a secondary school at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The incident occurred at around 10:00h.
Based on reports received, while the employees were working at one end of the building, the payroll arrived and was locked away in the school’s office. At the time, the pay clerk was sorting out the wages.
Shortly after arrival of the payroll, Police have said, a group of men armed with guns pulled up in a motor car and stormed the office, relieving the female pay clerk of the payroll. Some of the employees had already been paid, and they, too, were robbed before the men made good their escape in the car, which was waiting for them.
Guyana Times was informed that after the bandits had left, an alarm was raised and the Police were summoned to the scene. The car was later found. (G1)
