Three men were on Thursday arraigned with armed robbery when they appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate A George.
Adrian Fernandes, 30, a labourer of South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD); Gladwin McDonald, 30, also a labourer , of Goedverwagting Squatting Area, ECD and Emanuel Payne, 23, of Goedverwgating Housing Scheme were jointly charged for the robbery committed on 50-year-old Alex Adridge of Goedverwagting Squatting Area.
The charge was instituted under Section 222 (c) of the Criminal Laws (offences) Act Chapter 8:01. The men reportedly pleaded not guilty and would make their next court appearance on May 16, 2022.
It was reported that Adridge, a contractor, was at home when four men invaded his property and relieved him of four gold rings, one silver chain, and $5000 in cash.
Police stated that the perpetrators wore face masks and one was armed with a handgun.
On the day in question about 03:30h, the victim was awakened by a noise in his house. As such, he went to his living room where he was allegedly confronted by the suspects.
They reportedly tried to relieve him of his belongings but he put up a fight during which he was shot in his upper right leg by the armed suspect. The bandits then took the aforementioned items and made good their escape.
The victim was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted. After reviewing CCTV footage, three of the four suspects were arrested and charged.
