As Police continue to clamp down on driving under the influence of alcohol, three errant drivers were arrested and charged for the offence.
These alleged lawbreakers will be arraigned in the new week at Magistrate’s Courts along the ECD.
Charged are Ian Clarke, 63, of Section B Non-Pareil, ECD; 28-year-old Loakendra Ramdeo of Section B Non-Pareil, and Walter Oswald Wren, 45, of New Settlers Street Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara.
Police said Clarke was caught at the Good Hope Public Road, ECD with .99 per cent BAC of alcohol in his system and is expected to appear at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court while Ramdeo was arrested on the Plaisance Public Road, ECD, and is expected to attend the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on August 10, 2022.
Meanwhile, Wren was arrested on the Hope Public Road, ECD, with 238 per cent BAC of alcohol in his breath, and will attend the Cove and John Magistrate Court on August 8, 2022.
Driving while above the prescribed alcohol limit attracts a charge for the offence of driving under the influence (DUI) which carries a fine.
Persons can be charged for this traffic violation if, when tested, their blood alcohol content is found to exceed the prescribed limit of .35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, and their blood alcohol concentration exceeds 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
