A motor lorry which was traversing along the Corentyne highway on Friday morning went up in flames.
Reports are that the incident occurred at about 07:45h at Number 62 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
The 53-year-old driver managed to escape from the fire unharmed.
Reports revealed that the man was driving his motor lorry, GYY 6066, proceeding north, on the western driving lane at No 62 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, when his right-side rear tyre blew out, which caused the said vehicle to swerve to the left side parapet and come to a halt.
The lorry subsequently burst into flames from the engine compartment, after which the driver exited the vehicle.
A fire tender attached to the Skeldon Fire Station was summoned to the scene, and the fire officers went into action and extinguished the fire.
The entire engine compartment and front of the lorry was destroyed.
In an interview with the driver, he related that after the truck burst into flames he quickly exited the truck. He said the fire service arrived some 45 minutes later and extinguished the blaze.
Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
