Truck driver charged for causing death by dangerous driving

A 51-year-old truck driver of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (WCB), was on Wednesday charged with causing the death of Massy Stores employee Dayle Jordan in an accident along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Suresh Latchman was arraigned before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrates’ Courts.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on January 8, 2021, at Linden-Soesdyke Highway, he drove a motor truck in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of Jordan, 36, of La Retraite, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Reports are the accident occurred about 23:30h along the Yarrowkabra section of the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Police said that a motor pick-up driven by Latchman was proceeding north along the western side of the Highway when Jordan, who was also transporting a pillion rider, his fiancée on the motorcycle, allegedly overtook a car and ended up in the path of the truck, causing a collision.
Jordan and his fiancée were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. According to the Police, the truck driver was found to be above the legal limit for alcohol. (G1)
