Truck driver granted bail for killing motorcyclist
A 43-year-old truck driver was on Wednesday slapped with a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was released on $250,000 bail following his appearance before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Brentnal Richmond, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on March 29, 2021, at Melanie, East Coast Demerara (ECD), he drove motor truck GSS 5634, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of 31-year-old Leon Singh.
The case was postponed to May 20, 2021. In a statement, Police said that the truck was proceeding along the Melanie Access Road when the driver failed to stop at the intersection.
As a result, the truck ended up in the path of the motorcycle bearing registration number CH 3066 which was being ridden by Singh of Enmore, ECD.
Police stated that the motorcycle hit the right side of the front of the truck, causing Singh to fall to the roadway, where he sustained injuries to his body, including his head. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed while receiving treatment.
