Tucber Park defeat Blairmont

– RHT Thunderbolts, Upper Corentyne also victorious

As the Berbice Cricket Board/Stag Beer First Division Cricket Tournament commenced across the Ancient County of Berbice over the weekend, Tucber Park defeated the Blairmont Community Centre by four wickets in a match played on the latter team’s home ground.

Delbert Hicks smashed a century for RHT Thunderbolts

Batting first, Blairmont were restricted to 143 all out in 30.5 overs, with Damion Vantull taking 3-13 and the Guyana Under-19 all-rounder Leon Swamy taking 2-23. Former National Youth pacer Nial Smith grabbed 2-41, while off-spinner Kwesi Mickle took 2-36.
Chasing 144, Tucber Park ended on 145-6 in 24 overs, to be declared victorious. Maxi De Jonge starred in the batting department with a top-score of 38, while the right-handed Clifton Lindie hit a spanking 35. Vantull ended with an unbeaten 30 in Tucber Park’s win.
In the match between the RHT Thunderbolts and Young Warriors of Cumberland Canje, played at the ‘Area H’ ground on the Corentyne, a masterclass from former National Wicketkeeper/batsman Delbert Hicks helped the former team to a 6-wicket win over the latter team.
Some disciplined RHT bowling on the small ‘Area H’ outfield restricted the visiting Young Warriors to 168 all out. Former Berbice Under-19 player Keith Simpson returned figures of 3-31 with his left-arm spin, while Junior Sinclair and Eon Hooper each took two wickets.
Former Guyana Under-19 player Kasim Khan top-scored for the Young Warriors with 34, while Linden Austin contributed 23.

Damion Vantull had an all-round game for Tucber Park

In reply, RHT were off to the poorest start imaginable, losing four early wickets for only 18 runs as the impressive Trevon Stanislaus grabbed 4-24.
However, captain Eon Hooper and Delbert Hicks took full control of things with a 150-run partnership, in which Hicks blasted an unbeaten 107 while Hooper supported with an undefeated 33.
In other matches played on Saturday last in this tournament, Rose Hall Town Thunderbolts defeated Young Warriors, Upper Corentyne defeated Albion, Skeldon upset Port Mourant, and Police arrested Rose Hall Canje.
Two big clubs, Albion and Port Mourant, have signalled that they would be protesting the results of their matches.
