Tutorial Academy avenged their 2014 semi-final defeat by Guysuco Training School when the two schools met on Friday at the Skeldon Community Centre in a first round match in zone six of the Digicel Annual national Schools football knockout tournament.
Playing on the same ground on which they lost two years ago Tutorial employed a strong defense in Qualon Albert, Joshua Wilson and Philbert Taylor Jr. to prevent GuySuCo forwards; Mark McMend and Tyreque McKen from scoring. McKen and Mc Kend had dominated the first half of the game but were unable to register their names on the scoring card.
When Referee Colin Bowery blew he half time whistle, both teams had failed to score.
In the second half Tutorial employed a more offence approach the game and brought midfield Dorren Connelly to join Captain Lomar Reid and Omar Crawford on the strike line. The trio formed a unit which put pressure on GuySuCo’s defense comprising of rise of Akeem Tucker, Baron Marks, Royston Fraser and Kevin Joseph and in the 81st minute with both teams desperate, Reid from the top of the 18-yard box sent a long shot between the uprights forcing goalkeeper Kevin Tudd to move to his left but could not hold on to the ball.
Reid inked his name on the score cards again in the 90th minute after missing a corner shot from Marks. Goalkeeper Tudd failed to clear the field as the ball landed on the booth of a lurking Reid who made no mistake to seal the issue.
GuySuCo could only blame themselves for not scoring off the numerous chance which were created.
