Magistrate Fabayo Azore sentenced a remorseful television thief to three months imprisonment after he admitted to stealing the item.
Anthony Vasconsellos admitted to the charge which stated that he broke and entered the dwelling house of Shevon Bonser and stole a television set valued 5,000, on March 26, 2017.
Bonser had reported the incident following the discovery of the missing article, after which Police ranks conducted a search in the accused premises. The television was unearthed in the home of the 22-year-old Independent Boulevard Albuoystown, Georgetown resident.
The VC, who was present at the hearing, seemed to sympathise with the accused, telling the Magistrate that she does not wish for him to be jailed but requested replacement of the television as it was now ineffective (post incident).
Vasconsellos offered to replace the damaged device.
Magistrate Azore prior to sentencing highlighted the seriousness of the offence which carries a penalty up to five years imprisonment. She added that she will not “reward” him for his actions but instead will be lenient as she can, thus imposing a sentence of three months’ imprisonment.
