Two in custody after ammo find

Two Essequibians from the Good Hope/Dry Shore community of Region Two (E/bo Coast) are currently in custody of ‘G’ Division Police, assisting with investigations into a quantity of ammunition Police unearthed at the home of 64-year-old George Couchman.
According to information reaching Guyana Times, at some time between10:00 hrs and noon on October 25, a party of policemen went to Couchman’s home and conducted a search in his bedroom in his presence. They unearthed one box containing fifty (50) live rounds of .32 Armscor ammunition and four (4) live cartridges of 20-gauge ammunition.
The elderly man, a security guard, claimed he had received the ammunition from someone by the name of ‘Shahab’. Contact was made with Shahabuddin Mohamed Raffee, a 47-year-old farmer of Dryshore, Essequibo Coast, who declared he was a licensed firearm holder. A search was carried out at his home in his presence, and one Taurus .32 pistol and one box containing 50 live rounds of Armscor ammunition with two (2) extra magazines were unearthed. There were 11 live rounds of .32 ammunition in one magazine.
The firearm and armmunition were taken to the Anna Regina Police Station, where a confrontation was held between Shahab and Couchman. Couchman repeated his story and Shahab denied knowledge of what Couchman said. The ammunition was sealed, marked and lodged in the presence of both men. The licence of Shahab was produced, photocopied and lodged. Both Shahab and Couchman remain in police custody assisting with investigations. (Indra Natram)
