U-15 Jaguars beaten 3-1 by Suriname

The Guyana Under-15 National football team went down 3-1 to Suriname when the CONCACAF Under-15 Championship continued on Tuesday at the IMG Academy in Florida, USA. Despite scoring first Guyana was forced to constantly fight off the lurking Suriname strikers who inevitably found the nets on three occasions.

The Young Golden Jaguars went ahead in the Group F match following a volley from Orville Daniels in the 18th minute.
The Surinamese response was swift as just two minutes later, Fernando Heopel equalized after taking advantage of poor defending. Suriname took the lead in the 36th minute when Faisijo Burnett fired in the first of two goals.
In the second half Guyana was guilty of squandering several chances but their South American neighbours would seal the issue as Burnett returned in the 60th minute for his final strike. Guyana’s head Coach Bryan Joseph acknowledged that his team was “passive, disorganized and were outplayed by Suriname”.
He noted that the coaching staff tried to “wake up the boys, and get them going and motivate them.”
Joseph in looking ahead to the next match against St Lucia said that his staff will be putting measures in place to prevent a repeat of Tuesday’s performance. He expressed confidence of a turnaround come Thursday.
The loss means that Guyana, on one point after drawing their first game, are now in danger of bowing out of the Championships as they will need to win their final Group match in a convincing fashion.
