U-16 boxers to face off today

Young boxers from across the country will meet at the National Gymnasium this evening as they battle it out for bragging rights as the best boxers and gyms in the nation.
The Pepsi Mike Parris Under 16 is an annual event which is sponsored by Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), and is now in its sixth installment. It allows young and upcoming boxers to showcase the progress they have made over the year.

The 20 card affair was initially slated for the Andrew “Six head” Lewis gym but was removed from that venue to offer accommodation to a larger crowd. “We were looking at viewing with comfort, that’s why we shifted it to the Gymnasium,” President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Steve Ninvalle stated.
Attendance is guaranteed from the usual suspects, such as Pocket Rocket, Harpy Eagles, Young Achievers, Rodehall Jammers, Carryl Gym, Vergenoegen (formerly Essequibo gym) and Forgotten Youth Foundation. Additionally, two new gyms that have been developed over the past six months are expected to grace the rings. Savannah Boxing Gym from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and the Moruca Power hailing from Region One (Barima-Waini) will make the journey to Georgetown to participate in their first bout.
The first of 20 fights will begin at 17:00h sharp and admission is set at just $500.
