U-18 ruggers win French Invitational Tournament

Guyanese Ruggers traveled over 479 km on land and river to make history in St. Laurent, French Guiana at an Invitational Rugby Tournament hosted by the Territorial Committee Rugby Guyana. The Male Ruggers competed in the under 16 and under 18 categories with 12 and 7-aside matches respectively, while the females clashed in a 7s match.

The Guyanese saw losses in the under 16 and the women 7s match while the highlight of the evening saw the under 18’s winning the thrilling 7s match against Stage Cayennaise Mixed Team 21-19.
For the victors, tries were registered by Glenroy Poole, Lloyd Anderson and Michael Barrow with all of Kevin Wills’ conversions being accurate to secure the winning trophy.
Additionally, history was made when for the first time such a large number of ruggers from one nation was part of the tournament in it’s 14 year history. Team Guyana comprised 52 members who competed against three other teams in the French colony.
St. Laurent is also preparing to host another major tournament in the near future featuring teams from Martinique, Guadeloupe, Brazil, Chile and Trinidad and Tobago.
