UDFA/Banks DIH Year End/Christmas Futsal: Silver Shattas victorious in first outing

…As YMCA, Capital FC, W/Connection, Blueberry Hill record second wins

Silver Shattas humbled Amelia’s Ward Panthers, 11-2, recording their first outright victory in the Banks DIH major sponsored Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) organised fourth annual Christmas futsal Championship. However, the likes of YMCA, Capital Football Club (FC), Winners Connection and Blueberry Hill romped to their second wins after night two of the competition was staged on Wednesday night at the Retrieve Hard Court in Linden.

In their Group C battle, FC YMCA came from a two-goal deficit at halftime to record a 3-2 win over Net Rockers. Goals banged in by Shane Luckie and Denzil Pryor before halftime seemed like enough to send the YMCA to certain defeat.
However, this was not to be, since double strikes hit in by Barrack John and another by Jaden Nelson saw them recover to gain an important victory.
It was victory number two, as they had crushed Eagles United 8-2 in their first game on the opening night.
Up next was a Group B tussle as Capital FC, after gaining a 2-0 lead, stopped Fearless 5-0.
It was their second win after getting the first via the walkover route against Coomacka on the first night of the tournament.
For this win by Capital FC, Selwyn Barnes and Duquan Wilson recorded braces, while Devonte Tappin knocked in the other.
Following that match, in Group A, Topp XX defeated Hi Stars 5-3.
Topp XX in their first match of the competition drew with Silver Shattas, 3-3, and this win was engineered by a hat-trick of goals off the boots of Ryan Arthur, with Jamal Bentick getting a double for the winners, who were leading 2-0 at half time.
Blueberry Hill then pounded out a 4-0 win against Coomacka, with Rondel getting a brace as Samuel Broomes and Joshua Daniels netted the other goals.
In game five, Silver Shattas thumped Amelia’s Ward Panthers 11-2. Silver Shattas were in control 3-1 when the halftime whistle was blown.
Veteran Colwyn Drakes was in fine scoring touch with four goals, aided by Jonah Simon and Jehu Regis, who each hit hat-tricks, and Damian Williams secured the other goal for Shattas. For the losers, Damal Warner and Paul Trotman were their scorers.
This preliminary round of group matches will continue on Sunday night, with seven matches at the tournament venue, the Retrieve Hard Court in Linden.
The sixth match of the night was between Winners Connection and Eagles United in a Group C affair. Winners Connection prevailed 3-2 after nudging ahead at halftime 2-1.
Scoring for the winners were Jamal Reynolds, Akeem Caesar and Anthony Layne. Amani King and Dexter Milo Jr netted the goals for Eagles United.
Game seven featured Botafogo and Rockstone in their Group D encounter, resulting in Botafogo triumphing 9-0 after holding a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Shemar Caesar led the scorers with a triple, while doubles were recorded by Ojani Whittington and Shane Haynes. Ronel Depustrom and Malachi Todd got single strikes past the goalkeeper.
